Breaking News! TSA Eases Restrictions on Liquids, Gels, Creams in Hand Luggage

Hallelujah!

Beginning Tuesday, September 26, air travelers in the U.S. will be allowed to carry small quantities of liquids on board, as reported by the Transportation Security Administration. Here are the details:

  • Liquids, gels, creams and aerosols housed in containers of 3 ounces or less are now allowed in carry-on baggage.
  • Said liquid items must all fit into a single one-quart (7.5" x 8") clear plastic bag, which will be separately screened at the security checkpoint.
  • Drinks and other items purchased in the airport, past the security checkpoint, are also allowed on board in your carry-on.
  • The new rules apply to all domestic and international flights originating in the U.S. When flying to the U.S. from abroad, check with the transportation security authorities in your country of origin.
Here's a diagram from the TSA, outlining the new guidelines:

Rejoice! This is especially excellent news for business travelers (like me) who often need only a day's worth of clothes and get stuck checking a bag anyway. I am off to Toronto later today on business (for one night) and now I can just take a carry-on...as long as I can economize properly, which for me is still a big fat "if."

Note: Regardless of the newly relaxed rules, I'll still be bringing my lotion bar. Thanks Shannon!
