Mid-Week Trend Report: The New Smokey Eye

From left: Luella Bartley, Jenni Kayne.

Switch out your standard charcoal shadow and liner for something a little more fun this coming season.

Luella showed smoky indigo, blended with grey, and Vincent Longo for Jenni Kayne did deep shimmery green eyes. When paired with a pale lip (pink at Luella, nude apricot at Jenni Kayne) it's fresh and modern but still wearable.

For the Luella Bartley look: try MAC Smoulder Eye Pencil with lots of smudgy Paint Pot in Black. Switch out the Smoulder for Eye Kohl in Blooz or Prunella for the navy/indigo/violet look, whichever you prefer for your skin tone. The key is to keep it balanced; either a deep jewel-toned liner with grey shadow, or black liner topped with a deep blue or indigo shadow.

To get the Jenni Kayne look: Line with Vincent Longo Esmeralda eye pencil, and retrace the line with the green shade from Longo's Jardin D'Amour shadow trio, blending into the crease. The purply taupe shade in the trio is a great base, and the pink shade works as a highlight color on the browbones and inner corners.
