Self-Tanner Review Series: Nivea Body Sunkissed Firming Moisturizer

Nivea's entry in the gradual tanner market promises not only to bronze your bod, but to firm you up. I can't vouch for that one, not because I don't have a little thigh jiggle (who doesn't?) but because I just don't put much stock in these firming claims. Now, on to the important stuff:

Nivea Sunkissed Firming Moisturizer is a very thin formula, almost runny. This makes it incredibly easy to spread evenly, but also makes it prone to a common application error. With the thin formulas, I think you're more likely to slap it on and not rub it in adequately, just because it appears you've covered your bod. This will invariably result in the dreaded streakage. So, just take a little time to make sure you've spread it evenly.

As for scent, Nivea smells great out of the bottle -- like fruit! I think "citrus cream" would be the most apt description. However, this doesn't mesh so well with the stale-vanilla smell of DHA which, true to form with these gradual tanners, makes its appearance a couple of hours after application. In the grand scheme of things, though, there are worse smells (ahem, Jergens).

I used the Medium to Dark version and had a passable tan in two applications (you know I like to buy the darker versions to speed up the process). The problem? It wasn't orange, but it had a bit of a yellow cast to it that I found unnatural and just didn't like.

Overall, not my favorite of the drugstore gradual tanners. That honor still belongs to L'Oreal Sublime Glow.
