This seems to be a trend in the cosmetic blogosphere, so I think I'll contribute my two cents. Below, my take on the top 5 scents for autumn:
1. Hermes Eau des Merveilles: A little bit spicy, a little bit beachy, a little bit of that "classic" Hermes base, and a little bit...buttery? I love this...especially when it rubs off on a cashmere sweater and stays there. Mmmmm.
2. Stella by Stella McCartney: Rose and amber. Very girly, but rich. After a couple of hours, it smells like it's a part of you. Now even better, Stella has introduced Absolute, with more staying power and depth.
3. Prada: Amber, amber, amber. Smells a tad bit like Angel, but less stuffy. Something good to wear with tweeds and all those other lovely fall fabrics. Sophisticated and luxurious...this is a dressy fragrance.
4. Comptoir Sud Pacifique Coeur de Vahine: Like all the other Comptoir S. Pacifique fragrances, this smells like vacation, but it's got a bit of cinnamon in it to spice things up for fall.
5. L'Occitane Amande Blossom Dew: Not exactly a perfume (it's one of those cloudy liquids that perfumes and tones/moisturizes), but I love it. You can use a lot of it and it won't be overpowering. Perfect on the weekends.
