Runway Beauty: Backstage with Shiseido and Dick Page at United Bamboo

United Bamboo Spring 2008The Spring '08 United Bamboo show was held at one of my favorite venues, the Prince George Ballroom, with one of my favorite makeup artists, Dick Page, at the helm!

The backstage area was tight, but Dick is so cool that the atmosphere stayed laid-back and fun. He created a fab '60s look inspired by Michelle Phillips. With an inspiration like Michelle, how could you not love it? I just wish I had a better close-up of the makeup!

The look started with a tightly lined eye, achieved with Shiseido Accentuating Cream Eyeliner in Black (a new product this season!). I've been playing with this very same eyeliner at home and I love it - it's long lasting, intense, and easy to work with. Some of you have inquired about cream eyeliners recently, and the trick to applying them is to use a small, firm brush and apply in short strokes rather than attempting to drag the brush across your lid in one sweep. Keep the line neat for an elegant look, or smudge upward for some smokiness.

For the look at United Bamboo, Dick lined very, very close to the lashlines and then topped off the lashes with "gobs of mascara." Pale highlighter was applied to the browbones to accent the wide-eyed, 60s look.

Backstage at United BambooDick then created a "Kodachrome lip" with Sheer Gloss lipstick in S7, a light neutral pink, topped with a bit of powder for an even, matte finish. I can't find S7 on the website, so it's either new or discontinued (hope not!)...I'll keep you posted!
