Strawberry Fields Forever

I don't know about you, but I've never associated the Estee Lauder brand with gourmand fragrances. Classic florals, yes (think White Linen and Beautiful). Deep, spicy orientals, yes (think Cinnabar and Youth Dew). But something that smells like dessert? Never.

So when I heard that new Pleasures Delight was a gourmand, I was intrigued.

I was actually hoping it wouldn't smell anything at all like original Pleasures, not that I wasn't a fan of that fragrance. I actually loved it, but I wore it when I was 16 and it reminds me too much of high school and old boyfriends for me to love it still.

Pleasures Delight retains much of the floral character of the original, but it's different enough that it doesn't conjure up those images from 10 years ago. So what's different?

Strawberries, pomegranates, and caramel. Yes! It's sweet and tempting without being overly sugary, and the warmth of patchouli in the base makes it perfect for crisp, cool autumn days and nights.

Details on the notes from Estee Lauder:

Top Notes: Juicy Pomegranate, fresh Greens and dewy Freesia combine with the fruity taste of whipped Strawberry Meringue to delight the senses.

Middle Notes: A heavenly bouquet of flowers enriches the heart. Soft petals of White Peony and Lily blend with fresh Muguet and tender Heliotrope to create a delectable floral confection.

Base Notes: Warm, delicately sweetened notes of Sugared Rose Petals, tempting Caramel, fluffy Marshmallow and Vanilla meld together, forming the delicious dry down. Touches of Patchouli balance the creamy gourmand feeling.
