Chocolate Mousse For Your Face

When I first saw this product I honestly had no idea what it was. The bottle just said, "Colorescience Chocolate Mousse." Cryptic! I had no press materials and no background information at all; the little bottle had come from the depths of a gift bag from a press event (I think).

I was intrigued. What was it? Some kind of body lotion? A facial treatment? Aromatherapy? I read the back of the bottle, which provided a bit more insight, but was still a little cagey:

  • Powerful Antioxidant with Green Tea, Grape Seed, Vitamin E and Beta Carotene
  • Sun Friendly with Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Cocoa & Rice Peptides to Soothe Sunburned Skin
  • Helps Cover Uneven Skin Tone. Especially Good for Firming, Hyperpigmentation, Skin Balancing & Energizing
  • For Oily Skin Types and Darker Skin Tones
  • Moisturizer and Mattifier
  • Line Refiner, Pore Minimizer
  • Use alone or under any other product
OK, so it does...everything? I had to resort to Google to get a final answer. It's a primer!

And not only is it a primer, it's a primer that smells like Cocoa Krispies. Yes, my dears. This stuff is chocolate scented! I put a little on my hand and wanted to eat it. It's also very tinted, as you'd probably guess from the name. Darker than Smashbox Bronzing Primer, but also a little but pinker.

If you're fair-skinned, the brown tint may look a bit scary at first, but it blends nicely into a pretty believable tan. And I imagine that it would be well-suited for evening out darker complexions, too, either alone or under makeup. I've worn it alone a few times and it looks great - evens out my complexion and mattifies my skin without making it look dead. Perfect for summer, when we're always a little bit "dewier" than we'd like.

The texture is very similar to Smashbox -- they're both silicone-based -- and so are the results. Chocolate Mousse has good "grab" and helps foundation or even tinted moisturizer stay on longer and more evenly.

At $45, it's a bit more expensive than the Smashbox Photo Finish ($36 for regular and $38 for bronzing), but if you're willing to shell out a few extra bucks for the deeper color and the chocolate scent, go for it. Just don't eat it!
