Estee Lauder's new fragrance, Sensuous, is quite a departure from the brand's usual floral staples like Beautiful and Pleasures, and staid classics like White Linen. It's a woody amber featuring a warm accord that's "fluid, warm, inviting and distinctly feminine," according to Karyn Khoury, SVP of Corporate Fragrance Development Worldwide at Estee Lauder Companies.
So what does Sensuous smell like? It smells a lot like Dior Addict, actually, but with honey in the drydown instead of vanilla, and minus the powdery, peppery aspect. It also has far less potential to induce headaches than Addict, which I sometimes found too sweet and...whomping, if that's even a word. Yes. Addict was whomping.
Sensuous is like Addict's older, more sophisticated (and subtler) sister. It has a lovely honey and sandalwood base that's creamy and comforting without being too sweet. Think about the difference between sweetening your tea with honey versus sugar; the honey is smoother, subtler, more natural. That's Sensuous.
Normally I'd think a woodsy fragrance to be a terrible idea for summer, but Sensuous actually holds up remarkably well in the heat; it has a bit of a "skin scent" quality to it. Definitely a winner in my book!
