New Collection: Bobbi Brown Mauve

Bobbi Brown's latest offering, the Mauve collection, was inspired by Ali MacGraw's iconic look in Love Story. Love means never having to say you're sorry, friends!

These muted, dusty, vintage-inspired shades are perfect for early Fall. They make me think of riding bicycles on an overcast October day with fallen leaves swirling around. I can just hear the Love Story theme playing in the background. Now, on to the collection!

The headliner of the Mauve collection is obviously the palette; it houses three great eyeshadow basics for creating a perfect dusty plum eye. The Vintage and Chocolate Mauve shadows are new and exclusive to this palette. And I LOVE the Mauve blush; it's a dusty pink that's muted and vintage-y without looking dead. The lippies in the palette are standard Bobbi; wearable neutrals with a plummy touch. I prefer the other lip products in this collection, which brings me to...

The lipglosses! Wow, Black Pearl is a weird color. In the tube it looks almost like pearlized slate grey with a bit of lavender. On the lips it's a sheer purple nude, if that makes sense at all. Bizarre color, hard to describe! I'm excited about it, though, because on lips it gives the exact result of mixing both ends of that discontinued Smashbox Lip Illusion I was lamenting last week. Black Pearl is a keeper. Iced Mauve is also gorgeous, and less intimidating. The color name pretty much sums it up; it's a shimmering grey pink/lavender. Mauve is also self-explanatory; a medium plummy mauve with no shimmer.

There are two new lipsticks as well; Pale Mauve and Heather Mauve. Pale Mauve is on the pink side, while Heather Mauve leans more toward toffee. My mother stole it, so that's all I can say about it.

The eyeliner in this collection is HOT. Black Mauve Shimmer Ink Long Wear Gel Eyeliner is like Clinique's Black Honey liner, but less "red." It's near-black (just a bit of plum grey thrown in) with tiny flecks of bronze and gold. This is going to be my staple Fall liner, I know it.
