All my life I've been waiting for someone and when I find her, she's... she's a fish*

I'm conflicted, friends. And I'm not talking about the 2008 election, my next major bag purchase, or even what I'll have for dinner tonight.

I'm conflicted about body splashes/sprays/mists/spritzes...whatever you want to call them. (And just to be clear: I'm not talking about the Marc Jacobs splashes. At $65 a pop, they don't really qualify under this category!)

You see, I want to be serious about fragrance. I love all my Serge Lutens and my precious little dabber bottles of Chanel parfums. I covet L'Artisan and Bond and niche brands like Monyette Paris. I gave up the Bath & Body Works splashes in high school. But I still sometimes find myself reaching for one of those oversized bottles of diluted fragrance, even though I don't deem them worthy of being stored with the rest of my scent collection -- they live in a basket on the bottom shelf of my fragrance closet!

For years I've been hiding a bottle of Victoria's Secret Dream Angels Heavenly Angel Mist. When no one's looking, I spray it everywhere - on my clothes, on my scarves, in my hair, even in my weekend bags before I pack them. I'm kind of obsessed with it, even though it's on the cheap side and not really that unique. And I can't be the only one; VS claims that Heavenly is the #1 selling fragrance in America. Yet I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone over the age of 18 who'll readily admit to wearing it!

I'm coming clean with my Heavenly addiction because that bottle of Angel Mist now has a friend: Philosophy Amazing Grace Body Spritz.

Now, I've never had anything against Amazing Grace; it's clean, pretty, and completely innocuous. It just couldn't compete with what I considered my "serious" perfumes, those from Serge and Creed and Bond No. 9. I wore it for a short time in college, but then never again.

But now the Spritz has come along, and like the Angel Mist, I can't stop spraying it in my hair, weekend bags, and on my clothes...you get the idea. See, clean, pretty and innocuous is exactly what you want in situations like that. The super-light floral musk of Amazing Grace just smells good. And at $25 for a huge 8 oz bottle, you can afford to scent your surroundings liberally.

What do you think of the whole spritz/splash/mist genre? Not serious or potent enough for you, or just right?

* I hope some of you movie buffs out there recognize the post title! :)
