Last month's Beauty Graveyard post has turned into one of Beauty Addict's most popular posts ever, with dozens of you lamenting the loss of favorite lipsticks, shadows, scents, and body products.
Reader Critty (check out her site here) mentioned that she'd found an old MAC duochrome eyeshadow that she was sending off to Three Custom Color Specialists for duplication...and this sparked the interest of several of you. So, I thought I'd dedicate a post to Three Custom Color Specialists and their amazing work in bringing favorite beauty products back from the dead.
3CC was launched in New York in 1997 by a team of three professionals with more than 30 years experience in the beauty world. While they've expanded considerably and now offer over 250 ready-to-wear cosmetic products, their real sweet spot is the Custom Blending Service.
Here's how it works: send in a dime-size sample of your favorite discontinued product -- whether it be lipstick, gloss, eye shadow, blush, cake eyeliner, or many other options. 3CC will analyze the shade, texture and coverage and recreate it for you!
The new formula is then saved in their permanent files for easy search and reorder. Can you believe that their archive contains the formulas for over 9,000 shades, some dating back to the 1930s? Amazing! I took a quick look and found two favorite Estee Lauder lippies from the 80s -- my mom's Palace Pink and my grandma's Aegean Coral.
Even with this deep archive, though, it's always best to send a sample if you have one, so they can match yours exactly. Shades can vary slightly from batch to batch and the manufacturer's formulation may have changed over the years.
So, if you're still hanging on to that stub of lipstick or a few crumbles of eyeshadow, send them in to 3CC and they'll resurrect that Holy Grail product!
