Sinner or Saint? Be Both With Kat Von D's New Fragrances

TV tattoo artist Kat Von D has expanded her makeup line at Sephora with two sister fragrances, Saint and Sinner. Cute concept (although it isn't the first time it's been done), and one that lends itself quite well to fun packaging.

Honestly, the packaging is what I was after when I sought out the Kat Von D fragrances at Sephora. I didn't expect either fragrance to be that good, but I thought that any packaging associated with a tattoo artist would have to be cool.

The actual perfume bottles aren't that great; they're a little boring, and the red one looks eerily similar to Lancome's Magnifique, but the other items are nicely done, proving that there is indeed a way to showcase tattoo-inspired designs without devolving into hideous, overdone Ed Hardy territory.

As for the fragrances themselves, both actually proved to be pretty well done, although I wasn't a huge fan of Sinner, although I enjoyed the boozy chocolatey-ness that I detected from it. Liquor and chocolate? Perfect for a fragrance called Sinner.

Saint, on the other hand, is something I'd buy, at least in the small rollerball form. It's sweet, but not overly so, and the jasmine isn't completely in your face, thanks to the calming presence of vanilla. The opening has a creamy citrus feel that reminds me of some of Comptoir Sud Pacifique's scents.

I like that both fragrances share some common notes (mandarin, plum, jasmine, vanilla, musk); although they're quite different, you can tell that they're related.

Sinner's notes include orange blossom, mandarin, plum, jasmine, white flowers, cinnamon, vetiver, patchouli, woods, vanilla and musk. It's available in eau de parfum, rollerball, and a purse spray that looks like a ornate lighter (LOVE this).

Saint's notes include mirabelle plum, mandarin, tiare, caramel, jasmine, vanilla, musk and sandalwood. Like its counterpart Sinner, Saint is available in eau de parfum, rollerball, and purse spray.

There's also a gigantic hunk of a solid perfume ring, a heavy, gunmetal gray rose that comes with interchangeable pans of both Sinner and Saint.
