Something for Everyone

This post is in response to a comment by reader PinayFlyHunny on one of my posts about the much-abhorred Kimora Lee Simmons range:

"I was actually excited about her line coming out because I thought she would specialize in makeup for Asian or biracial women. I feel magazines or the media do not show the breadth of beauty. It seems like beauty magazine editors think that featuring makeup techniques on four Caucasian women will apply to all women. I hope Kimora’s cosmetic line can embrace beauty in different ethnicities."

And from reader Annie:

"Maybe they would be great for some of us who don't benefit from the "one color fits all average caucasian women" products. Beauty needs diversity, and an ability to look beyond the surface. I think this applies not only to people, but also to products!"

I agree with the sentiment that the beauty industry focuses too heavily on the Caucasian complexion; the face of the "All American Girl" is changing right before our eyes and the industry needs to respond! Unfortunately, it looks like Kimora's line focuses more on sheer glitz factor than catering to different ethnicities.

Things are slowly getting better, but in the interim, there are some great options. If you're looking to break out of the "one color fits all" mode, check out Becca. This Australian brand was created by a makeup artist with the express purpose of enabling women of any ethnicity or complexion to have flawless skin. While it began with concealers and foundation, the collection has since been expanded to include a gorgeous color collection.

Becca features such an impressive range of shades that you're bound to find the one that suits you. For example - there are
34 different shades of concealer, with varying undertones, and each compact comes with an extra-cover and medium-cover version. There's an equal variety of foundations, shimmer powders, lip glosses, eye shadows, you name it.

Not only is the selection impressive, I've found that the quality of Becca products is excellent. Stop by their display or check them out on sephora.com and let me know what you think! (Just keep in mind, sometimes the stores don't carry the full range...so look online to get an idea first.)
